From cozy loungewear and breastfeeding must-haves to practical everyday accessories, these are the products I’ve personally used and loved. 1. Stylish Diaper Bag for Moms on the Go // Every new mom needs a practical diaper bag, but who says it can’t be cute?! If you’re looking for something a little more stylish than your typical baby bag, I highly recommend the Enya Mond Luna Bag. This bag is absolutely GORGEOUS in person and has plenty of compartments to organize everything you need for your baby (and yourself!) when leaving the house. It’s made with incredibly soft, pebbled vegan leather and features a water-resistant lining, an extra-large changing mat, stroller straps, and an additional shoulder strap for multiple carrying options. I especially love that it looks like a beautiful everyday handbag while still offering the functionality of a diaper bag. If you’re shopping for practical new mom gifts, this is such a good option! 2. Stanley Tumbler for Staying Hydrated While Breastfeeding // One thing I learned pretty quickly after becoming a mom? Staying hydrated is SO important, especially when you’re breastfeeding or pumping! I love having my 40 oz Stanley tumbler nearby throughout the day because it makes drinking water so much more convenient. The oversized handle and straw make it easy to sip while nursing, rocking Maverick, or juggling a million other things. Plus, Stanley tumblers come in so many fun colors! Breastfeeding can increase your fluid needs, but there’s no universal requirement to drink exactly 128 ounces every day. I recommend keeping water within reach, drinking regularly according to thirst, and following any personalized advice from your healthcare provider. This is easily one of my favorite breastfeeding essentials for new moms!
3. Comfortable Postpartum Underwear // Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention: comfortable underwear after having a baby! During postpartum recovery, the LAST thing you want is anything tight, scratchy, or uncomfortable against your skin. That’s why I’m such a fan of Tommy John’s incredibly soft underwear. The fabric feels delicate and comfortable, and the styles are actually cute, too! They’re a great option when you’re ready to transition back into everyday underwear after those initial postpartum recovery days. Just remember to choose underwear that comfortably accommodates any pads you still need and doesn’t irritate healing areas. If you’re preparing for delivery, I also put together a full guide to my Postpartum Essentials, including products that helped me feel more comfortable after giving birth. 4. Portable Multi-Use Travel Charger // This might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of new mom must-haves, but trust me, a portable charger is SO handy! Between feeding sessions, doctor appointments, stroller walks, and spending hours holding a sleeping baby, I’m constantly using my phone. I’ve been loving this lightweight pink travel charger because it’s compact enough to throw into my diaper bag or purse. It also allows me to charge my Apple Watch, which is such a convenient bonus. There’s nothing worse than finally getting comfortable with a sleeping newborn only to realize your phone battery is about to die. Such a simple little purchase, but one I’ve appreciated having around!
5. Frida Mom Cooling Hydrogel Nipple Pads // If you’re breastfeeding or pumping, you already know your nipples can go through A LOT during those early postpartum weeks! My lactation specialist recommended cooling nipple pads when I was experiencing soreness, and these Frida Mom hydrogel pads became one of my favorite breastfeeding comfort essentials. They’re designed to provide a cooling, soothing sensation to tender nipples, which can feel amazing after frequent feeding or pumping sessions. I also appreciate having something easy to use when I need a little extra comfort. One money-saving tip I’ve heard is cutting hydrogel pads into smaller pieces, but only do this if the manufacturer specifically allows it, since altering the pads may affect hygiene and proper use. Follow the package instructions for cleaning, reuse, and replacement. If you’re experiencing persistent nipple pain, bleeding, or difficulty breastfeeding, reach out to a lactation consultant to check your baby’s latch and help identify the cause.
6. Multipurpose Nipple and Lip Balm // I’m all about products that serve more than one purpose, especially now that I’m a mom! This nipple and lip balm is such a convenient little addition to my postpartum self-care essentials. It’s designed to moisturize and soothe dry skin, and I love that I can keep it in my purse or diaper bag for easy access throughout the day. Between frequent handwashing, feeding sessions, and adjusting to postpartum life, having a moisturizing balm nearby is always a good idea. Plus, the packaging is SO cute! If you’re using any balm while breastfeeding, make sure it’s specifically suitable for nipple use and follow the manufacturer’s instructions about whether it needs to be removed before feeding.
7. Super Soft Postpartum Loungewear// If there’s one thing every new mom deserves, it’s a REALLY comfortable loungewear set! Let’s be real, during those first few weeks postpartum, getting dressed usually means changing from one pair of comfy clothes into another. And honestly? No judgment here! I’ve been absolutely loving this top and these pants from Tommy John. The fabric is unbelievably soft, lightweight, and comfortable without feeling too heavy. It honestly feels like a second skin! I love having cute loungewear that makes me feel a little more put together while still being comfortable enough for relaxing at home with Maverick. Whether you’re recovering from delivery, breastfeeding, or simply enjoying a cozy day at home, this is such a good postpartum wardrobe essential. Use code MICHELLE25 for 25% off, subject to current promotional terms.
8. Prenatal Vitamins for Postpartum and Breastfeeding // One thing I didn’t realize before becoming pregnant was that prenatal vitamins can still be part of your routine AFTER having your baby! My OB recommended continuing mine while breastfeeding or pumping to help support my nutritional needs. I originally started taking these vitamins four months before conceiving Maverick and continued throughout my pregnancy. Thankfully, I haven’t experienced any noticeable side effects, which I appreciate because some prenatal vitamins can cause nausea or digestive discomfort. I’ve even recommended them to several friends! Of course, everyone’s nutritional needs are different, and some breastfeeding moms may benefit from a different supplement after delivery. Always check with your healthcare provider to make sure you’re getting the right nutrients and amounts for your needs. 9. Buttery Soft Bralette for Everyday Comfort // Finding a comfortable bra can be HARD, especially when your body is changing during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. One thing I quickly learned after becoming a mom is that I want everything touching my skin to be as soft and comfortable as possible! This Tommy John second-skin bralette has become one of my favorite everyday basics because the fabric feels incredibly buttery soft. It’s perfect for lounging around the house, running errands, or wearing under casual outfits when you want something comfortable without a restrictive feel. It comes in black, pink, and cream, so there are plenty of cute neutral options. If you’re actively breastfeeding, keep in mind that a dedicated nursing bra may offer easier feeding access. Use code MICHELLE25 for 25% off, if available!
What Does a New Mom Actually Need After Giving Birth?
When you’re pregnant, SO much of the focus is on preparing for your baby. Between researching strollers, decorating the nursery, and building your baby registry, it’s easy to forget about your own needs. But postpartum recovery is a major life transition, and having a few comfortable, practical products ready can make those early weeks feel a little easier. My biggest recommendation is to focus on new mom essentials that support your comfort, recovery, and everyday routine, rather than feeling pressured to buy everything on the market.
For me, that meant soft loungewear, comfortable underwear, breastfeeding supplies, a large water bottle, and a few practical accessories I could keep nearby. You’ll also want to prepare the basics for physical recovery, including maternity pads, a peri bottle, and any additional products recommended by your healthcare provider. Every postpartum experience is different, so choose what works best for your body and your lifestyle.
