Postpartum Essentials
Women are superheroes. The physical toll laboring takes on a body is unbelievable. Nothing can prepare you. Thankfully, I had a relatively smooth vaginal delivery with my son, but even then my body was sore afterwards. Today I’m sharing the top items that helped me get through postpartum as comfortably as possible. Every single item on this list is a must-have for postpartum vaginal delivery. Keep reading to see why!
Sitz Bath Seat, $9.99
Whether you are blessed with hemorrhoids or end up being one of the lucky ones – you’ll be sore down there for a little while. Go ahead and purchase a sitz bath seat (and sitz soak) prior to giving birth so you’ll have it ready for you when you get home. It helps with pain and swelling and the warm water feels great against your lady bits. Highly recommend.
Nursing Bras, $36.99 (Pack Of 5)
If you choose to nurse, these bras are the most comfy nursing bras I’ve found. I tried so many, including the beloved Kindred Bravely which I found super uncomfortable, and these are the only ones I could stand! They are a fraction of the price of other brands and have that barely there bralette feel. I will say, they don’t provide any pushup (they don’t have underwire) so if you have a larger chest these may not be for you.
Lansinoh Breast Therapy Packs With Soft Covers, $11.97
My breasts were super sore postpartum and these reusable cooling/warming pads were a lifesaver. They can be frozen or warmed up (I preferred warmth) and come with the most comfortable covers! You simply stick them in your bra and continue your day while you’re pampered!
Nursing Tank Tops, $36.99 (Pack Of 3)
Another great purchase if you’re nursing. Why? They are SO comfortable. They are super stretchy and soft. Plus, the clasps are easy to open for an easy transition to nursing. They come in a bunch of colors and are a great price point! Highly recommend.
Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Pads, $9.98
Unfortunately, breastfeeding/pumping is accompanied by milk leakage. Milk can leak at the most unexpected times, so if you’re outside the house you’ll want to carry these with you. Why? They save you from having to wash your bras excessively. I prefer disposable nursing pads as opposed to reusable from a cleanliness standpoint. These are great!
Lansinoh Upside Down Peri Bottle, $11.75
When I gave birth to Maverick, the hospital provided me with a classic peri bottle. Luckily, I had this one in my hospital bag! The upside down peri bottle helps to cleanse and sooth hard-to-reach areas and holds more water than a traditional peri bottle. I used this peri bottle for weeks after delivery to dilute urine (prevents stinging) and sooth tender areas. It really is soothing (you can use cold or warm water) – I ended up getting a second to place in my bathroom downstairs so I had one on each floor.
Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags, $25.99
I didn’t know if I’d use these bags – but I do and am so glad I had them on hand! I’m currently freezing a stash of breastmilk for the future and can be stored for up to a year!
Donut Pillow Seat Cushion, $29.99
Another item to have waiting for you at your house. Even if you use this for a couple days I PROMISE you it’s worth it. For me, it hurt to sit down for a little while so this cushion came in handy. Plus, it’s pink!
Lansinoh Contact Nipple Shields, $8.22
I never expected breastfeeding to hurt so much. Breastfeeding can be uncomfortable or downright painful – especially in the first few weeks. These nipple shields helped my nipples so much! I still use them to this day. I like the shape of these – the drooped tops allows for skin-to-skin contact with baby which is so important! They’re comfortable to use (they’re very malleable and thin) and still allow you to feel baby without it rubbing too much!
TUCKS Medicated Cooling Pads, $7.68
Another lifesaver for your lady bits! I placed these on top of my pads for extra cooling/soothing. This was the #1 product recommended to me for postpartum care and I can see why!
Lansinoh Hot and Cold Pads, $12.99
I tried several cooling pads during postpartum and I ended up liking these the most! I like how you can freeze them or heat them up in the microwave! They’re lightweight and comfortable (I wrapped it in toilet paper for a temperature barrier). Just make sure to sanitize these pads after every use!
