How To Practice Self Care
Self care is the key to balance
Why am I smiling in the middle of a snow covered forest? Because this girl took her mom on a trip to the spa for her 60th birthday! My mom has always been my best friend, so I knew I had to dream up the perfect gift for her sweet 60th. My January was spent reflecting on 2017, analyzing what worked (and what didn’t) in my personal and professional life. Looking back, I realize I was the best daughter, sister, friend and blogger when I was making self-care a priority. Those weeks or months I was lacking in self-care, my personal and work life suffered. This year, I’ve made a promise to myself to make self-care my #1 priority to be the best version of myself. After this realization, I knew a spa getaway was the PERFECT gift for my mom’s 60th. This year the gift of relaxation outweighs any piece of jewelry or a new purse.
We spent 3 days in the middle of nowhere, Mont Tremblant nesting in a tiny cabin in the woods. The first two days were spent exploring the great outdoors (the snow-covered trails were gorgeous!) feeding endless friendly deer oranges and carrots and took in the beauty around us. We visited Mont Tremblant, a winter wonderland in its own right, where we went window shopping, sipped on hot coffee and indulged in beaver tails! Most people go to Mont Tremblant to ski/snowboard, however, this was a relaxing trip, therefore we spectated, rode the gondola and got caught up in a few gorgeous snowfalls!
Day three was the ultimate day of relaxation: spent at the Scandinavian Spa! This spa is known for it’s hot/cold outdoor pools, gorgeous landscaping, and complete silence. You read the currently: there is no talking in this spa! Not even a whisper. Also, cell phones are prohibited on the premises. It’s amazing how rejuvenating a day can be without any form of communication. As a blogger, you can imagine I spend most of my day online, so disconnecting from the online world has now become the ultimate luxury. My mom and I left feeling completely at peace and ready to take on the world!
Three days in a winter wonderland is amazing for the soul, not-so-great for the hair. The cold crisp air, combined with the salt water from the hot pools left our hair in a state of shock. My mom and I both bleach our hair, so you can imagine how much hydration it needs on the daily, never mind following extreme temperature changes! Luckily I had packed a few secret weapons to keep our hair healthy and happy. The first: It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask. If you haven’t tried this product it’s magic! It’s crafted for color treated hair and packs a pretty punch. Comprised of oat kernel extract, apricot kernel oil and sweet almond oil this formula smells amazing and leaves your hair feeling instantly renewed. I adore it’s thick consistency – a little goes a long way and only needs to be in hair 2-5 minutes to work it’s magic! My mom and I have been using this hair mask every shower for the past month and our hair looks as healthy as ever!
If you’re like me, a wash out conditioner isn’t enough to bring your hair back to life. I need a leave-in-conditioner because my hair is high maintenance AF. After showering, I’ve been using Cibu Argan Oil Treatment as a leave-in conditioner on the tips of my hair. This treatment is super concentrated – so I use a dime size on the bottom half of my hair (emphasizing the bleached sections of my hair). The Argan oil leaves my hair smelling amazing and the lightweight formula helps to nourish my hair before applying my hair tools. I’d highly recommend this leave-in treatment for anyone with colored or damaged hair! You can use this treatment on wet or dry hair so showering beforehand isn’t necessary! Both hair products are available online or at your local Hair Cuttery. In addition to haircuts and styles, I recently discovered Hair Cuttery offers a wide range of hair products and tools! It’s the perfect one-stop spot to pamper yourself and rejuvenate your hair (especially in the frigid winter months!). I’ve already scheduled a blow out for my mom and I later this month for girls date to continue on the self-care theme.
