2-Minute Half Up Topknot Hair Tutorial
I’m a fan of any hairstyle that requires minimal effort. I’m talking an under 5-minute kind of hairstyle. I am notorious for wearing my hair down in loose waves, so any slight alternation to this hairstyle is ideal. That’s when the half-up topknot comes into play. Today I want to share a super simple hairstyle you can rock with curled hair, straight hair, 3-day post-shampoo hair etc. Keep reading to see how I accomplish this super easy beachy look in under 5-minutes.
Step 1: Volumize With Dry Shampoo
Whether you have thin or thick hair, you’ll want some added volume for this look. I quickly sprayed on Cibu’s KaPow Dry Shampoo directly onto my roots for some quick texture. I love this dry shampoo as it is lightweight but still packs a pretty punch. I carry around the travel size mini (only $5!) in my purse in case I need any quick touch-ups during the day. Since I hadn’t washed my hair in a couple of days, this product was perfect for collecting all the oil buildup in my hair. After spraying, I ran my hands through my hair and tousled it for a couple seconds to re-introduce some volume into my hair.
Step 2: Section Hair
Now that your hair has some volume, it’s time to section your hair to create the perfect topknot. Don’t worry about it being super neat, the messier the better. Sweep all of your hair back then decided how much hair you want to leave down and how much you’ll put in the top knot. The bigger you want your topknot, the more hair you’ll want to section off to create the topknot.
Step 3: Create Topknot
Now it’s time to create the topknot! Simply twist your sectioned hair into a topknot. Don’t worry about it being neat – this look is meant to be messy! Secure your topknot with a hair tie. If you have long hair like mine, you’ll want to make sure the hair tie can support the weight of your hair. If you prefer your topknot to be on the neater side, use a few bobby pins to secure your topknot.
Step 4: Add Volume To Topknot
Now it’s time to add some volume, girl! Tug at the outside ends of your topknot to create a fuller, messier look. The messier you want the topknot to be, the more you can tug at the ends. If it becomes too messy for your liking, simply use a few bobby pins to get that topknot under control!
Step 5: Add Finishing Spray
To finalize the look, use your favorite finishing spray to ensure your topknot will stay in place. I’ve been using Cibu’s Finista Finishing Spray as it has a lightweight finish but great hold. It smells refreshing and the travel size mini (only $5!) fits perfectly into my purse for touch ups! Now you’re set for the day!
What I love most about this hairstyle is its versatility! It can be dressed up with a cute summer dress or dressed down and worn to the beach – as pictured! Last week I treated myself to a large dose of vitamin sea with my bestie Marie! We lounged by the water, talked and enjoyed the warm summer weather! If you’re super nosey like me – I snapped a photo of some of the goodies I brought with me – sunscreen, phone external charger, lip balm, sunnies, dry shampoo… etc!
