Heatless Hairstyle For Long Hair
Follow this easy heatless tutorial for a gorgeous spring look
A few weeks ago I posted an instastory with this faux braid hairstyle and I received an overwhelming amount of questions asking how I accomplished this look! I thought it would be easiest to create a simple-by-step hair tutorial to explain just how easy it is to accomplish this hairstyle! This hairstyles takes less than 5 minutes to create – and doesn’t involve using any heat! Great for colored, damaged or tired hair. Make sure to read through the entire post as I include one easy hack to repair damaged hair!
Step 1: Volumize With Dry Shampoo
One of the reasons I love this heatless hairstyle so much is it can be accomplished with any hair type! It can be straight, wavy, curly, greasy, frizzy – you name it! Whatever the state may be – I recommend to spray some dry shampoo into your roots to add a bit of volume! The messier, the better! I’ve been using the Nexxus Keraphix Dry Shampoo from the new Nexxus Keraphix collection! I love this dry shampoo because it instantly adds volume while refreshing my hair! It absorbs oil and leaves no visible reside! It also has a spring fresh scent! I apply it directly to my roots and run my fingers through my hair to fluff it up!
Step 2: Divide Hair Into Pigtails
To begin this hairstyle, divide your hair evenly until two pigtails. I’d recommend using thin elastics to give it a polished look! You can either use clear elastics or elastics that fade into your hair color.
Step 3: Form Hole Above Elastic
Create a “hole” in your hair by dividing your hair evenly. You may need to push your elastic down to create more space.
Step 4: Pull Ponytail Through Hole
Next, take your ponytail and feed it through the gap away from your face.
Step 5: Add Volume To Hair
Once you’ve fed your hair through, it will look like the photo on the left. Loosen up your strands by tugging on the outsides of the hair. The more dramatic you want this look, the more you pull or “loosen” your hair! I live by the motto go big or go home – so you know I tugged it quite a bit! In the case of flyways, use a bobby pin the secure your hair back in place!
Step 6: Add Another Elastic
Next, add another elastic to your hair. I typically position the elastics about 2.5 inches apart, however, feel free to play around with the distance to create a look of your own!
Step 7: Repeat Step 3-4
Once your second elastic is secured, repeat steps 3-4 by feeding your hair into the gap you’ve created. Remember to feed it through away from your face. Consistency is important!
Step 8: Add Final Elastic + Repeat Step 3-4
You can either leave your hair as is – or add one additional elastic! Again, repeat steps 3-4!
Step 9: Make It Messy!
To make your hairstyle more undone, run your fingers through your hair and loosen it up. Make it as messy as you’d like!
The Final Heatless Look:
And there you have it! This look is simple, fun and completely heatless! Since my hair is bleached (and therefore damaged), I like to wear this hairstyle to give my hair a break from my curling wand and straightener! It’s genius!
Bonus Hack To Revive Damaged Hair:
If you’re like me and have bleached and/or damaged hair I have a major hack for you! Nexxus just released their Keraphix System dedicated to restoring severely damaged hair. I’ve been a long time fan of Nexxus, so I was super pumped when I heard the news! All products contain natural ingredients and smell fresh – just in time for spring! This collection is a 3-step system for ensuring maximum restoration. First, the Nexxus Keraphix Shampoo is infused with a protein fashion – consisting of Keratin Protein and Black Rice. It gently washes your hair and leaves your hair feeling soft. Next, apply the Nexxus Keraphix Gel Treatment to give your hair a shot of hydration while repairing damaged hair. Rinse, then apply the Nexxus Keraphix Conditioner or Nexxus Keraphix Masque, both infused with the same Keratin Protein and Black Rice, can be used immediately after rinsing your hair. It helps to detangle your hair and nourish your damaged hair. I’ve been using this system for the past two weeks and my hair is looking super healthy and vibrant!
