5 Ways To Make Your Bedroom Your Happy Place
Make your bedroom your sanctuary with these home decor tips
I wholeheartedly believe your bedroom is an intimate reflection of who you are. Think about it, you spend at least 7-8 hours a day in your bedroom sleeping – that’s now including time it takes to wind down and periods of relaxation. Typically, the state of my bedroom is a pretty good reflection of what’s going on in my head. If it’s a mess – you guessed it! So am I. This year, I’ve made it a mission to make my room a safe haven – a place I feel most relaxed, refreshed and most like myself. I’ve tweaked a few things in my room in doing so – I thought I’d share what I’ve done to create my “happy place”.
1. Words of Inspiration
I’ve always been that girl who loves words – quotes, song lyrics, bible verses etc. Simple words or phrases can completely alter my mindset, so I decided to incorporate some of my favorite words into my room. I recently purchased my felt board and wrote “Today I Choose Joy” on it. I am the furthest thing from a morning person, so this quote helps to create a positive my mindset for the day. My “Get It Girl” sign next to my bed is the little push I need every morning to get it done. No excuses, it’s crunch time. Finally, my “Cup of Happy” mug is just darn cute, alright. My morning coffee is a true cup of happiness. And somedays, a very real lifeline.
2. Fairy Lights
It may sound silly, but fairy lights can be incredibly soothing in your bedroom. It’s the perfect amount of twinkle I need. I placed mine above my bed frame for a shot of magic. My fairy lights are actually stars – and I’m obsessed! I like to turn off all the lights and turn on my starry lights and burn some candles when winding down for the day. Don’t knock it till you try it!
3. Comfortable Pillows
To make my room ultra cozy, I’ve gathered some of the biggest, fluffiest pillows I could find to coz-fy my room. There’s nothing better than collapsing into a pile of cozy pillows. I’m kind of a pillow snob – so I’ve been very particular about what pillows I allow on my bed. I recently found the most comfortable pillow as my primary sleeping pillow! It’s the Leesa Hybrid Pillow – made with down-like quilted pockets which are ultra soft and maintain their fluffy shape. You can also remove the quilted inserts with a simple zip to change your support level! My favorite feature of this pillow is the other side of the pillow contains fibers that give a cooling effect. I’m a warm sleeper – so this allows my body temperature to drop for a comfortable sleep. Anything to avoid night sweats! I absolutely recommend this pillow for a better sleep!
4. Decluttering My Room
Y’all, it’s finally happened. I’ve become a minimalist. If I’m not using it, it goes! It’s taken me years to get rid of my squirrel-like tendencies – but I’ve learned I’m extremely influenced by my surroundings. If I’m in a cluttered room, my stress levels instantly rise. When I’m in an organized, minimalist room – I feel more energized and productive. For this reason, I’ve been super strict on everything that enters my room. When I get new clothes/accessories/decorations I either donate or sell older items. This system not only clears my mind, it also saves me money! The money I earn selling older items I immediately invest in new ones. It’s kind of like a recycling system – meaning it’s super easy to justify buying new things!
5. A Comfortable Mattress
Finally, and perhaps most importantly a comfortable mattress. Growing up, I’ve been lucky enough to have comfortable beds. My parents always told me about investing in a comfortable mattress is a must. Spending 8+ hours in it a day – it’s crucial to treat your body to the best quality mattress you can afford. Of all the mattresses I’ve slept in – the Leesa Mattress is hands down one of the most cloud-like. This mattress is designed for all types of sleepers with 3 premium foam layers: a 2-inch Avena™ foam top layer for cooling, a 2-inch memory foam middle layer for pressure relief and body contouring and a 6-inch dense core support foam for durability. It’s the perfect comfort level – soft but not too soft you’re sinking into the mattress. The best part? You can try out the mattress in your home for 100 nights with free shipping. If you don’t like it – return it! The mattress is sold in the US, UK, Canada, and Germany. It’s shipped (for free!) compressed in a box to your door so it’s easy to move into your bedroom. You can also rest assured (get it) Leesa is doing all they can to give back to the community. Leesa donates one mattress to a shelter for every ten they sell through their One-Ten Program – over 22,000 mattresses have been donated so far!). Leesa also is an advocate for the environment as they plant one tree for every mattress sold and donates 1% of each employee’s time to volunteer for local causes. I mean, it’s love! If you’d like to try out a Leesa Mattress for yourself, they’ve been kind enough to offer my readers a $100 0ff discount by using the promo code MASHELLE.
