Everything You Need to Know About an Eyelash Lift: Cost, Results & My Honest Review

Hi loves! If there’s one beauty treatment I LOVE, it’s anything that makes my morning makeup routine a little easier! I’ve always been a fan of long, curled lashes, and while I absolutely loved my eyelash extensions, keeping up with regular fills became a little too time-consuming. So naturally, I started looking into eyelash lifts as a lower-maintenance alternative! I decided to book my first lash lift treatment at my favorite local spa, HR Lounge, a sister company of Hair Republic. And girls, I had SO many questions! How long does a lash lift last? Does it hurt? How much does it cost? Can you still wear mascara? Today, I’m sharing my personal eyelash lift experience, including the process, aftercare, potential side effects, before-and-after photos, and whether I think a lash lift is worth the money.

What Is an Eyelash Lift?

An eyelash lift, also called a lash lift, is a cosmetic treatment that uses specialized solutions to temporarily reshape and curl your natural eyelashes. Think of it as a perm for your lashes! During the treatment, your natural eyelashes are lifted over a silicone shield or rod and treated with solutions that help them hold their new shape. The result is a more lifted, curled appearance that can make your natural lashes look longer without adding extra lashes. Unlike eyelash extensions, a lash lift doesn’t add length or volume through artificial fibers. Instead, it enhances the appearance of your existing lashes.

How Does an Eyelash Lift Work?

Wondering what actually happens during a lash lift appointment? Here’s what the process looked like during my experience. First, my lash technician cleansed the eye area to remove makeup, oils, and other residue. Next, a silicone curling shield was positioned on my eyelid near the lash line, and my eyelashes were carefully arranged over it. A lifting solution was then applied to help reshape the lashes. During my appointment, this solution was left on for approximately 12 minutes before a setting solution was applied for another 15 minutes. Finally, a conditioning product was used to help moisturize the lashes. My eyes remained closed throughout the treatment, and the technician handled all the products and application steps. The exact products, processing times, and techniques vary depending on the lash system and your natural eyelashes. Because these treatments involve chemicals close to the eyes, they should only be performed by an appropriately trained professional.

How Long Does an Eyelash Lift Take?

A professional eyelash lift appointment generally takes around 40–60 minutes, although the exact time depends on the salon and whether additional services, such as lash tinting, are included. My appointment lasted approximately 40–45 minutes from start to finish, with around 30 minutes spent lying down during the treatment itself. Compared with the time I previously spent getting eyelash extensions applied and maintained, I found this SO convenient!

How Long Does a Lash Lift Last?

One of the most common questions about this treatment is how long does a lash lift last? Most lash lifts last approximately 4–8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle, the treatment used, and how your lashes respond. As your eyelashes naturally shed and new lashes grow in, the lifted appearance gradually fades. Personally, my lash lifts typically lasted around six weeks, which I found to be a great amount of time between appointments. Keep in mind that results vary, and repeated treatments should be spaced according to your lash technician’s guidance to avoid overprocessing your natural lashes.

Eyelash Lift Aftercare: What to Do After Your Appointment

Proper lash lift aftercare is important for protecting your lashes and following the treatment system’s instructions. When I originally had my treatment, I was advised to avoid getting my lashes wet for the first 24 hours. That included avoiding eye makeup, steam, saunas, and activities that caused excessive sweating. However, aftercare recommendations can vary depending on the products used, so it’s important to follow the specific instructions provided by your technician.

A few general tips include:

• Follow your technician’s instructions about water, steam, and eye makeup after treatment.
• Avoid rubbing, pulling, or aggressively brushing your eyelashes.

• Avoid harsh products or additional chemical lash treatments unless your technician says they’re appropriate.

If you develop significant eye pain, vision changes, or persistent redness, seek prompt medical attention rather than assuming it’s a normal reaction.

How Do You Prepare for an Eyelash Lift?

Preparing for an eyelash lift appointment is pretty simple! I recommend arriving with clean eyelashes and no eye makeup, including mascara, eyeliner, or eyeshadow. Your salon may also recommend avoiding certain skincare products or eye-area treatments before your appointment. Make sure to mention any eye sensitivities, allergies, recent eye procedures, or previous reactions to lash products. If you wear contact lenses, ask whether you should remove them before treatment.

Does an Eyelash Lift Hurt?

One of my biggest questions before booking was whether an eyelash lift hurts. Thankfully, my personal experience was completely painless! For me, the treatment was more about lying down, keeping my eyes closed, and waiting for the solutions to process. I actually found it pretty relaxing. On my personal pain scale? 0/10! That said, lash lifts shouldn’t cause significant burning, stinging, or pain. If you experience discomfort during the procedure, tell your technician immediately. Chemical irritation and allergic reactions are possible, and the treatment should never be something you have to endure.

How Much Does an Eyelash Lift Cost?

The cost of an eyelash lift depends on the salon, location, and whether additional services such as lash tinting are included. When I originally booked my treatment, a lash lift at HR Lounge cost approximately $55. I’ve also seen salons advertise lash lifts at much higher prices, sometimes up to $150. Because salon pricing changes, I recommend checking the current service menu before booking. While a lash lift may seem like a splurge, I loved that it required fewer maintenance appointments than my previous eyelash extensions.

Who Is a Good Candidate for an Eyelash Lift?

An eyelash lift may be a good option if you have natural eyelashes you’d like to enhance and prefer a lower-maintenance beauty routine. It can be especially appealing if you want curled lashes without wearing eyelash extensions or using an eyelash curler every morning. However, lash lifts aren’t suitable for everyone. People with active eye infections, significant eyelid inflammation, allergies to treatment ingredients, or recent eye surgery may need to postpone or avoid the treatment. If you have blepharitis, eczema affecting your eyelids, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, or another eye condition, consult your eye-care professional before booking. Pregnant or breastfeeding clients should also discuss product safety and salon policies with an appropriate healthcare professional. A reputable technician should review your health history and any sensitivities before proceeding.

Can an Eyelash Lift Damage Your Natural Lashes?

This is an important question! Although professional lash lifts can be performed without noticeable damage, they are not completely risk-free. The lifting and setting solutions chemically alter the structure of your eyelashes. If products are left on too long, applied incorrectly, or used too frequently, they can cause dryness, brittleness, breakage, or irritation. There is also a risk of allergic reactions and eye injury if chemicals come into contact with the eyes. That’s why I strongly recommend choosing an experienced lash technician who follows proper sanitation procedures, uses professional products, and understands how to assess your natural lashes.

Who Should Perform an Eyelash Lift?

When it comes to treatments around your eyes, safety should always come first! Look for a technician who has completed appropriate lash lift training, follows local licensing or certification requirements, and works in a clean, professional environment. Don’t be afraid to ask about their experience, the products they use, and their sanitation procedures. You can also ask whether a patch test is appropriate, although a negative patch test cannot guarantee you won’t react. I personally prefer choosing a reputable salon over simply booking the cheapest appointment available. Your eye health is worth protecting!

Can You Wear Mascara After an Eyelash Lift?

YES! One of my favorite things about lash lifts versus eyelash extensions is that you can generally continue wearing mascara once your technician says it’s safe. I love adding mascara to my lifted lashes for extra definition and a little more drama. During my original treatment, I was advised to wait at least 24 hours, preferably 48 hours, before applying mascara. Lash Lift vs. Eyelash Extensions: What’s the Difference?

I’ve tried both eyelash extensions and eyelash lifts, and while I love the results of each, they’re very different treatments.

So, is an eyelash lift worth the money? For me, it was. I loved being able to enhance my natural lashes without committing to the ongoing maintenance of eyelash extensions. My lashes looked beautifully curled, I could still wear mascara after the initial aftercare period, and the results lasted approximately six weeks. Of course, everyone’s eyelashes and beauty preferences are different. If you love a dramatic, full lash look, extensions might be more your style. But if you prefer a natural-looking curl and a lower-maintenance routine, a professional lash lift could be worth considering.
