Make the most of this spring season.
First and foremost: happy spring! Growing up in Canada, spring meant the snow was finally melting and bare trees were beginning to bud! Us Canadians would see the sunshine for the first time in what felt like months. Spring was a fresh start. Today, living in Florida I continue to celebrate spring with a handful of traditions. I hope these traditions will inspire you to make the most out of this spring season!
1. De-Clutter Your Wardrobe
Oh spring cleaning, how necessary you are. Now is the time to go through your wardrobe and de-clutter! First things first, pack away your winter jackets, boots, mitts and scarves! I use vacuum sealed organizers to stash my winter clothes under my bed. Next, go through your spring clothes. If you wouldn’t wear an item tomorrow, sell or donate that item. There are plenty of charities which accept clothing to help those in need. If you’re looking to sell items, I highly recommend Poshmark. Poshmark allows you to get rid of clothing and accessories fast! Use your Poshmark money for fun stuff. Spring season activities, new spring clothes, spring travel – the list goes on!
2. Add Some Spring Season Touches To Your Home
It’s time to rejuvenate your living space! Nothing says spring like fresh flowers. Treat yourself to a mix of spring flowers and display them in your home. Add some brightly colored pillows to your bed. Deep clean your house. Afterwards, spritz the rooms with a floral spray. Plant some new flowers or herbs in your backyard. These simple touches will freshen up your house and mindset.
3. Plan a Spring Escape
Spring break isn’t just for the kids! Plan a spring escape with your girlfriends or man. If you’re looking for a stress-free getaway go on an all-expenses paid cruise! If you don’t have much time off select a 2-3 day cruise. The lack of Internet is a vacation in itself. If you’re low on funds, plan a staycation. Rent a hotel for a night or two within your city. Be a tourist in your own town. Take photos. Plan a spa day. Enjoy yourself!
4. Eat Healthily
Whether you let your diet slip during the winter or not, spring season means bathing suit season is quickly approaching. Give your body a cleanse with whole foods. Coming from a gal who is currently in the last 10 days of Whole 30… there are endless dishes you can prepare using whole foods. After being off dairy, grains, and sugar for so long I notice a huge difference in my body. I feel less bloated, have higher energy and just feel “good”. Concentrating on meals comprised of whole foods will make a huge difference in your mind and body. Take advantage of all the fresh spring produce! Stock up on veggies and fruit! Have a veggie tray and fruit salad in your fridge at all times. Make homemade trail mix. Having healthy snacks quickly accessible is the easiest way to eat healthily.
5. Change Up Your Makeup Routine
After a long winter, chances are your skin hasn’t seen the sun in a while. To get your skin prepped for shorts weather, apply a buildable sunless tanner. A longtime favorite of mine is Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer. Forget an orange spray tan. This moisturizer is infused with a buildable self-tanner which produces a natural glow. The moisturizer in this product won’t leave your skin dry and cracked. During springtime, I use this moisturizer every 2-3 days after I shower. As with any self-tanner, make sure to rinse off the palms of your hands after use! As for makeup, transition dark lips and smokey eyes to a neutral hue. Tone down the eyeshadow and make your eyes pop with a bold winged liner and volumizing mascara. Pick out a fun blush and pink lipstick. Contour your face with bronzer and highlighter. Voila! You’re spring ready!
