First Date Makeup Tutorial

Who else is the worst at first dates?! Throughout my dating life, first dates have by far been the hardest mountain to climb. My body automatically goes into panic mode during a first date. My palms are sweaty, my heart is racing and my words are slurred. The second, third, fourth date… no problem. But that first date…Oh goodness. First dates are hard enough to mentally prepare for – so I thought I would put your mind at ease and suggest a fun and first date appropriate makeup look. First impressions are so crucial on a first date – so it’s important to not overdo your makeup and instead let your natural beauty shine. Here is a first date makeup tutorial I’ve put together for a fun first date!

Step 1: Create a Lasting Foundation

To create this look, you want to apply a lasting foundation. There’s nothing worse than your foundation dripping off your face in the middle of the first date! It’s important to find a foundation that works well with your skin type. Recently I’ve been loving MAC’s Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation in NC30 for my oily skin. I apply it with my EcoTools Flat Foundation Brush #1202. I love how well the foundation spreads and blends into my skin with this brush. Afterwards, conceal the bags under your eyes and any imperfections with concealer. I am still obsessed with MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer NC25 and apply it with EcoTools Flat Foundation Brush #1202

2 Get Bronzed

Once you’ve applied foundation and concealer – it’s time to add a fresh glow! Bronzer helps to contour and sculpt your face so it appears slimmer. First apply bronzer along the underside of your cheekbone. Next, thin your nose by applying bronzer to the sides of your nose. Finally, define your jawline by applying browser below your jawline. This will not only shape your face, but also give your face a fresh glow. I used MAC’s Matte Bronze Bronzer Powder and applied it with EcoTools Domed Bronzer Brush #1229.

Step 4: Smoke Show

Now it’s time to accentuate your eyes! I decided to go with a naturally smokey eye to enhance the eyes without being too overdone. I used the Naked 2 Urban Decay Basics Palette (one of my favourites!) to create a natural look. First, I applied Frisk to my eye crease and eye lids with EcoTools Eye Enhancing Duo Set Brush #1217. Next, I applied Skimp to my eye crease and above my brow bone with EcoTools Eye Enhancing Duo Set Brush #1217. This look is classy yet understated for the perfect first date!

Step 5: Make Your Eyes POP!

To make your eyes POP! it’s time to apply eyeliner, mascara and brow gel. First, apply a winged black liner. My holy grail black liquid liner is Makeup Forever’s Black Ink Liner (seriously, it’s amazing) for a precise winged effect. I then applied RIMMEL Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara to lengthen and volumize my lashes. Finally, to fill in my eyebrows, but maintain a natural brow shape, I applied Benefit Gimme Brow Brow-Volumizing Fiber Gel in Medium/Deep

Step 6: Kissable Lips

To add the final touch, apply a subtle lip shade to make your lips look kissable but not too flamboyant. Aka skip the bold red lip on the first date.

This look will leave you feeling confident, sexy and put together for your first date! Now it’s time to take his breath away! You go girl! Let me know if you’d like me to do a ‘First Date Outfit’ blog post! I’d love to give y’all some outfit ideas!

When was your last ‘first date’? How did it go?

I wish I knew how to do winged eyeliner — I’m not too good with makeup so I keep it as simple as possible.
I love this look on you!

This is so helpful! I have no idea what I’m doing with makeup. Also, ecotools brushes are the best!

This is such a simple look, but it’s so classy and elegant! As someone who loves her crazy lip colors I find it hard to make use of my more natural shades, but I think first dates are a great use for them. And about being the worst at first dates…I am the worst, too!

You are so pretty! And it sounds like we have similar first date experiences haha .. I am very introverted and on a first date I think my introversion just comes off very awkward :/
