My Favorite Beauty Products of 2015

BEST-OF-MAKEUP-2015

Let me start out by saying my skin is a complete diva. If it doesn’t like a beauty product, it will become angry and break out in a rash in 0.83929 seconds. Over the years I’ve learned I must baby my skin. For that reason finding beauty products that get along with my skin has been a challenge, however I now have a complete list of products that compliment sensitive skin. If you or someone you know has sensitive skin – make sure to bookmark this page! I have tried everything on the shelves – and these are the BEST products for oily, sensitive skin. Side note: I live in Florida so when I mean oily skin I mean I live in a 100% humidity zone. If these products make the cut, they will be perfect for oily skin everywhere! Note: this is a 100% non-sponsored post. I am not paid by any brands to mention their products. I just really, really love these products… and think you will too!

Foundation & Concealer: Y’all I cannot say enough great things about MAC Pro Longwear foundation and MAC Pro Longwear concealer. I’ve been using them both for over a year and a half and nothing else compares! Both foundation and concealer are full coverage, however they don’t feel cake-y on your face! If you have oily skin and want a full coverage foundation/concealer, do yourself a favour and head over to Mac!

Brow Gel and Pencil: Benefit does it best when it comes to brow care! I use a combination of the Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel and the Benefit Instant Brow Pencil to achieve the perfect brows. First, I fill in sparse hairs with the Benefit Instant Brow Pencil, then brush it out with the eyebrow brush. Next, I apply the Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel to give definition to my brows and keep the color locked into place.

Liquid Eyeliner: I’ve searched high and low…but the award for the best black liquid eyeliner goes to… Makeup Forever Ink Liner. Not only does the formula stay in place all day (seriously – I never need a touch up!) but the felt tip applicator is superb. I give it 5 stars!

Mascara: In my experience, finding a great mascara is a challenge. For us gals with naturally short lashes – we need both length and volume when it comes to mascara. After trying a million different brands, I finally discovered the Diorshow Iconic Overcurl a month ago and have been using it ever since. The incurved brush allows the mascara to provide maximum coverage. Plus, this mascara is waterproof with an impressive staying power.

Lipsticks and Lip Pencils: I’ll admit I am a total MAC lipstick snob. My collection is either extremely impressive or embarrassing. I can’t get enough! I have tried so many lipsticks, however the finish and staying power of MAC lipsticks cannot be beat. My 2016 top three MAC lipsticks (ie. most used) were: MAC’s Snob, Velvet Teddy and Twig. All three lipsticks compliment my skin tone year round. Further, my top two lip pencils are MAC’s Whirl and Soar. If you haven’t already…try them out. Do it.

Eyeshadow Palette:

Nothing makes me more excited than the release of a new eyeshadow palette. While I will forever be loyal to my Urban Decay Naked Palettes, when the Tartelette In Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette surfaced it was love at first sight. The amount of shades I can use on a daily basis for a nude eye is exciting. I will be creating a mini series of makeup looks using the Tartelette In Amazonian Clay Matte Palette – stay tuned!

Nail Polish: My favourites and most used nail polishes of the year are Essie’s Minimalist and Blanc. Not only do they compliment every outfit, they give my skin a glow – even in the winter! The Essie Gel Setter Top Coat is another somewhat recent discovery of mine. This top coat applies evenly and I can tell a noticeable difference in the staying power of my manicures! Win!

Cleansers: Let me begin by stating 2015 was the year I feel madly in love with the Yes to Cucumbers and First Aid Beauty skincare lines. To all you gals with sensitive skin – both lines are a must try! In 2015, I first became hooked on the Yes to Cucumbers Face Cleanser Towelettes after picking up a travel pack for a trip. I was instantly hooked as 1) the cucumber aroma was insatiable  2) all my makeup came off 3) I didn’t break out the next day. After I did some research I discovered the entire line of Yes to Cucumbers and purchased the Yes to Cucumbers Gentle Milk Cleanser (only $6!). I was equally impressed with the cleanser and it’s cooling affect on my skin. I use both, depending on my mood: towelettes when I am feeling lazy and cleanser when I want a deep clean. After an allergic episode with my skin (from a lip product), I decided to give the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser a try, since it was fragrance free. This cleanser worked wonders on my skin and provided the gentle touch I needed at the time. Now I switch it up between the Yes to Cucumbers cleaner/towelettes and the First Aid Beauty face cleanser, again depending on my mood.

Eye Makeup Remover: I have always been picky about makeup removers. I want my makeup remover to get the job done the first swipe, and that is exactly what Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover does. Little product is needed to remove heavy  eye makeup and doesn’t leave my eyes feeling oily. It’s love!

Moisturizer: In addition to the Yes to Cucumbers cleanser, Yes to Cucumbers Daily Calming Moisturizer provides gentle relief to my skin. This lightweight formula does not leave my oily skin feeling damp, however it provides just the right amount of moisture so my face doesn’t get chapped. The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer delivers similar results, however it is fragrance free! When my skin is irritated or needs a little extra TLC I opt for this moisturizer!

Body Cream: Another beauty line I absolutely adore is Whish. The entire Whish line is catered to sensitive skin as they are paraben free, sulfate free, DEA & TEA free (I am severely allergic to TEA), petrochemical free and phthalate free. Made with all natural with organic ingredients, Whish makes it their mission to provide those with sensitive skin a treat! I absolutely adore the Whish Body Butter in Pomegranate. I apply this body butter after every shower and it leaves my skin feeling smooth and moisturized!

Shaving Cream: In addition to the body butter, I also use Whish Shave Cream in Pomegranate. It smells absolutely divine and leaves my skin soft and silky!

Sugar Scrub: Finally, I am addicted to the Whish Sugar Scrub in Pomegranate. During the summer, I use this sugar scrub once a week to keep my fake tan in check. This scrub successfully gets rid of dead skin cells and leftover fake tan. My skin is extra smooth after using this scrub! I would highly recommend it!

Lip Balm: For some reason, my lips are the most sensitive skin on my body. They are easily set off, so I use a select few products/makeup lines on a daily basis. After trying out the First Aid Beauty line, I decided to try the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Intensive Lip Balm. Holy amazing. If you have chapped lips – you need this product. Made with real honey, beeswax and colloidal oatmeal, this lip balm provides gentle nourishment for even the most sensitive lips! What I love most about the lip balm is when it is first applies it gives off a cooling effect, leaving my lips feeling relieved.
